Presentation of RED: "Global challenges, regional solutions Latin America and the Caribbean facing the climate and biodiversity crisis" in Dominican Republic

CAF - Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean invites you to the presentation of its Economy and Development Report (RED) "Global challenges, regional solutions Latin America and the Caribbean facing the climate and biodiversity crisis".

Event date:

April 23, 2025 - December 23, 2025

In person

The planet's climate is changing and biological diversity is decreasing at an accelerating rate. Both phenomena pose major threats to humanity, but it is precisely human activities that are responsible for this crisis. Latin America and the Caribbean is no stranger to these challenges, which it faces from a situation of economic and social fragility, characterized by meager economic growth, high levels of poverty and inequality, and low institutional capacities, among other development deficits.

This Economy and Development Report analyzes the challenges and opportunities that climate change and biodiversity conservation imply for Latin America and the Caribbean. The report emphasizes three messages of relevance to the region as a whole in its response to these global challenges: the importance of adaptation, the need to contribute to global mitigation, and the urgency of preserving natural capital for sustainable development. The most appropriate solutions may vary from region to region. Each country will have to find its policy portfolio by weighing the costs and benefits of different alternatives, the political feasibility of actions, and the impacts on equity and growth.
