Central America consolidates its position as fifth largest economy

Central America has consolidated its position as the fifth largest economy in Latin America with a gross domestic product of US$386 billion, according to a report released by the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (Sieca) Chile, in sixth place, and the rest of the countries in the region.

The document, prepared by the Center for Economic Integration Studies of the same entity, establishes the importance of Central America as "a strategic block in international trade".
The isthmus, with 55 million inhabitants, is the main global exporter of fresh pineapple and cardamom and the second largest exporter of bananas.
The document states that during 2024, will receive foreign exchange for $55 billion due to its exports of goods, which also include melons and watermelons (third largest exporter in the world), sugar (fifth worldwide) and coffee (sixth largest exporter on the planet).
